Common IELTS Mistakes

Mistake 1: Wrong preposition with time > โŒ I was born in May 15th. > โœ… I was born on May 15th.

โŒ At 2024, the company expanded. > โœ… In 2024, the company expanded.

Mistake 2: Wrong preposition with verb > โŒ I depend of my parents. > โœ… I depend on my parents.

โŒ We are discussing about the problem. > โœ… We are discussing the problem. (no preposition โ€” discuss is transitive)

Mistake 3: Wrong preposition in Task 1 descriptions > โŒ The graph shows an increase of sales. > โœ… The graph shows an increase in sales.

โŒ Sales increased of 20%. > โœ… Sales increased by 20%.

โŒ Sales rose at $50 million. > โœ… Sales rose to $50 million. (endpoint) > โœ… Sales rose by 20%. (change) > โœ… Sales rose from $30 to $50 million. (range)
