What Happens
Part 1 lasts 4โ5 minutes. The examiner asks you questions about familiar topics like your home, work, studies, hobbies, and daily routine.
You will answer approximately 12 questions across 3 topics. The first topic is always about where you live or what you do (work/studies).

What Examiners Want

- Extended answers โ 2โ3 sentences per question, not one-word replies
- Varied vocabulary โ don't repeat the same words
- Some complexity โ use a mix of tenses and sentence structures

The 3-Sentence Formula
For each question, aim for:
- Direct answer โ address the question immediately
- Reason or detail โ explain why or give context
- Example or extension โ add a personal touch
Example
Examiner: Do you enjoy cooking?
Good answer: "Yes, I really enjoy cooking, especially on weekends. I find it relaxing after a busy week at work. Last weekend, for instance, I tried making a Thai curry from scratch and it turned out surprisingly well."

Key Tips
- Don't memorise scripts โ examiners can tell and will mark you down
- Don't give one-word answers โ "Yes" or "No" alone will hurt your score
- Don't panic about grammar โ small errors are fine at Band 7; fluency matters more
- Do use natural fillers โ "Well...", "Actually...", "To be honest..." are fine and sound natural
