Meadowlark Animal Rescue is a small independent charity that rehomes cats, dogs, rabbits and small rodents from across the county. Most of our animals come to us because their previous owner has moved away, become unwell, or — in a small number of cases — has surrendered the animal after finding themselves unable to cope. Our aim, wherever possible, is to match animals with homes in which they can settle comfortably for the rest of their lives.

**Before you visit.** Please complete the online pre-adoption form on our website before coming in. The form asks a number of questions about your household, your experience with animals, and the amount of time the animal would be left alone on a typical day. We use the answers not to refuse people but to save everyone's time: if an animal is clearly not suited to the home in question, we try to say so before you have made the journey.

**Meeting the animal.** Visits are by appointment only and are held on Saturday mornings between 10 am and 1 pm. We allow up to 45 minutes with a particular animal at a first meeting. For dogs, this normally takes place in one of our outdoor runs; for cats and smaller animals, in one of the quiet side rooms. Children of any age are welcome but must remain with an adult at all times.

**The home check.** Once a potential match has been identified, one of our volunteer inspectors will arrange a visit to your home. This is not a formal inspection — we are simply looking to see that the home is broadly suitable for the animal in question. The inspector will also discuss any small changes that might be helpful, such as the installation of a cat flap, the fencing of a garden, or a suitable sleeping area for a rabbit.

**Adoption fees and conditions.** Adoption fees vary by species and cover neutering, vaccination and initial veterinary care. A standard fee is £80 for a cat, £150 for a dog, and £25 for a rabbit. All animals leaving Meadowlark must remain as companion animals only; they may not be used for breeding or bought or sold commercially. We remain the animal's guardian of last resort: if, at any future point, you are unable to keep the animal, we will take it back.
