Annual Leave Policy — Staff Handbook (Extract)

All full-time employees are entitled to 28 days of paid annual leave per calendar year, which includes the eight national public holidays. Part-time employees receive a pro-rata entitlement based on their contracted hours. Leave accrues from the first day of employment, and new starters may take annual leave once they have completed their first month.

Employees must request leave through the online HR portal at least two weeks before the proposed dates. Requests for more than five consecutive days must be submitted four weeks in advance. Approvals are not guaranteed, as managers may decline requests that would leave the team understaffed during busy periods. Wherever possible, a reason for any refusal will be given in writing.

Staff may carry a maximum of five days of unused leave into the following calendar year. Leave carried over must be taken by the end of March, after which it is forfeited. In exceptional circumstances, such as long-term illness, carried-over leave may be extended by written agreement with Human Resources.

No more than two members of any team may take leave on the same day during December. Requests for December are processed in the order they are received, and the HR portal closes for December requests at midnight on 30 November.
