English has three articles: a, an, and the. They do very different jobs.
| Article | Use | Example |

| a / an | Indefinite โ one of many, first mention | I saw a dog in the park. |
| the | Definite โ specific, already known | The dog was barking loudly. |
| no article | General meaning, plural/uncountable nouns | Dogs bark at strangers. |
"An" replaces "a" before a vowel sound (not letter): an hour, a university.

Mistake 1: Missing "the" with specific reference > โ Chart shows population of Tokyo. > โ The chart shows the population of Tokyo.
Mistake 2: Extra "the" with general meaning > โ The children today spend too much time on the phones. > โ Children today spend too much time on phones.
Mistake 3: Wrong article with abstract nouns > โ The love is important in society. > โ Love is important in society.
Mistake 4: "A" vs "An" with silent letters > โ a hour > โ an hour (silent H, vowel sound)
